Is your appetite insatiable enough that you cannot be stopped? Do you desire to do the work of a Pastor? Obviously we should never attempt to serve merely in the power of our own flesh, but to be effective, we must be sharpening our skills and abilities.
This is why teachability is one of the most vital characteristics of ministry leaders. When you stop learning, you will stop leading. Rather, it relates to HOW you should lead. I hate conflict, so I have to be intentional about confrontation.
A decade and a half ago, Angie and I started to go plant a church, and had we done so, it would have been disastrous. Only then may he be sent from the church. The leaders of the church must examine the qualifications of the one set apart to preach and affirm the validity of this call. Hands must be laid upon him in recognition of what God is doing in his life. According to Lloyd-Jones, these are the distinguishing marks of a call to gospel ministry. To one extent or another, each of these six realities must be present in the life of one who has been set apart by God to preach.
Lloyd-Jones had experienced each one of these in his life. Further, he encouraged others to discern the presence of these hallmarks in their lives. Teaching Series. Prayer and discernment can help you determine how you are called to preach. Think about your talents. Preaching in public requires spiritual sensitivity, a deep understanding of the faith, and courage.
If you have all these talents, God might be asking you to use them to spread his word. Ask God what he wants of you. Use Scripture to support your prayer. Read passages about the calls of different prophets or apostles. Discern whether God is asking you to spend your life or a few years fully dedicated to preaching.
