Why does cookie crisp taste different

If you continue to use this site we will assume that you are happy with it. Well, sort of. This new—old Cookie Crisp does not have more chocolate chip flavor. But it does have a fair deal more cookie flavor, to the point where it nearly obfuscates whatever chocolate flavor remains.

Which is on all Cookie Crisp, but I think General Mills really cranked their glazer beam up to 11 for this edition. But hey, with this little cocoa content, maybe Chip the Wolf could sink his canines into this Cookie Crisp without poisoning himself. Mix in Cookie Crisp to make Cocoa Puffs salvageable. I have no idea how General Mills managed to release a Cocoa Puffs cereal solely dedicated to adding more chocolate taste , and somehow make it less chocolatey.

This is a textural plus, because it means less cratered corniness to bore nor bore into your palate. But sadly, the satisfaction stops there. This is because, as its name implies, Cocoa Puffs is less of a dark or milk chocolatey cereal and more of a strictly cocoa powdered confection. But alas, any net gain from that excursion has now been washed away. Ultimately, this Taste Comeback needs to go back to square one.

If General Mills really wants to play the nostalgia card, they need to put their money where our mouths are and be bolder. They completely ruined the cocoa puffs! Now they taste like plain corn kix, no chocolate taste at all. So sad. The cocoa puffs after the change pretty much taste as if they removed all of the cocoa entirely. As a cereal connoisseur, I will often try out different cereals from various companies.

On one such trip, this box caught my attention. As you can see in the image, the presence of Hebrew drew my eye immediately. Living in the Northeast US, it's not often that you see Hebrew written on anything, especially a cereal box. Within seconds, it donned on me that I might've just found the Holy Grail. After valiantly protecting the box from all potential takers, we proceeded through the checkout and I carefully prepared the item for it's long transport home.

The trip home seemed to take longer than normal and the ritual of putting away the groceries seemed even longer. Once everything had been sorted and stored it was time to open this treasure from the Holy Land. The other Monday cereals available As the cardboard was ripped away and the plastic bag was parted from side to side, the smell of the cereal began to fill my nostrils. Pouring the cereal into a bowl, I could tell that the texture looked the same as well.

As the first scoop hit my taste buds, my mind wandered to early times, days when Spider-Man and X-Men cards adorned Cookie Crisp boxes. Needless to say, I was elated to have found a product I believed to be long gone. Much as this site reminds us of days gone by, the smell and taste of food from our childhood can instantly take us back to our past.

The memories triggered may remind us of Saturday morning cartoons, digging for a special prize or arguing with a sibling over pouring the last bowl.

Perhaps, even a small story about such an adventure can trigger memories from others. I hope everyone enjoyed this tale and remembers that if you ever see Monday Cookies for sale, don't hesitate to purchase it. Unless, of course, it's the last box, as that should be reserved for me. We all pick the type of cereal we would like. Our family tends to be huge cereal eaters. This week my daughter choose Cookie Crisp. This Saturday while she slept I decided to be like the cookie crook, and sneak into the kitchen, and poor a bowl of Cookie Crisp. As soon as the first bite hit my taste buds I knew immediately that it didn't taste the same, and it for sure didn't taste better.

As the tears plopped into my milk I realized that I will forever miss the true taste of Cookie Crisp, and so many other of my childhood favorite. GarE Posted 8 years 2 months ago. I agree that the formula changed greatly when GM bought it, but I thought it changed very much for the better.

Did you know that the Ralston Cookie Crisp had no chocolate in it at all? In fact, the "chips" in the Ralson cereal were actually dried apple bits! Kid ya not - look it up yourself if you can find an old box. I remember reading that as a kid and being astonished. I actually wrote to General Mills to compliment them on how much better Cookie Crisp tastes now.

They used to be made of oat flour and they changed them to corn flour years ago and they are airy shadows of their former selves. I got somewhat used to them and still eat them, but man, they're nothing like what they used to be.

Good article, though - I always enjoy reading the viewpoints of other sugar cereal afficionados - even if I don't completely agree with them! Gq4u21bc Posted 8 years 6 months ago. Great article many old school cereals dominated my childhood too bad they all taste disappointing now in days. Funny how our taste buds stored the great flavors of our past time TheThickster Posted 10 years 3 months ago.

I noticed that cookie crisp is not the same anymore either. I remember the cereal tasting more like cookie.
